AI and the Future of APIs

While AI seems to be the dominant theme across the tech industry, API Days London revealed another equally significant trend: the unbundling and re-bundling of API management platforms. The discussions explored how enterprises are increasingly seeking modular API management solutions—breaking away from monolithic systems toward more flexible, composable infrastructures. This shift offers businesses the ability to tailor their API management stack more precisely to their needs, integrating best-in-class tools for specific functions like security, monitoring, or analytics.

Speakers also emphasized the interplay between AI and API design. With AI-generated APIs becoming a reality, there’s an emerging challenge of maintaining security and governance as these AI-driven systems are deployed across industries. The conference highlighted a few groundbreaking tools that streamline API design using AI, but the focus remained on how to ensure these APIs remain secure and scalable.

Standout Speakers and Sessions

The speaker lineup at API Days London was impressive, featuring industry experts from global leaders like Google, IBM, and Postman. Among the many thought-provoking sessions, a few really stood out for us:

      • Our friends over at Postman had a great session on Supercharging your workflows with their AI tool, PostBot, Pooja Mistry and Gbadebo Bello, both Developer Advocates at Postman gave a great demo of the tool, which helps streamline the more tedious tasks of API development.

      • Vedran Cindrić Founder & CEO of Treblle put on a great session on REST APIs, she broke it down her 7 lessons in a really fun an engaging way that everyone in the room could resonate with.

        • We really enjoyed API consultant, Ikenna Nwaiwu’s session: An Operating Model for API Platforms, it was a lovely overview of his pragmatic workflow to make API programs successful.

        • On day-two we caught the fireside chat between Mehdi Medjaoui Founder and Chairman of Apidays Conferences and Andrew Humphreys Senior Director Analyst, APIs and Integration at Gartner. They provided some great stats around the API industries growth and relevancy across all organizations.

          • We might be a bit biased, but one of our favorite sessions was with our very own Aden Forshaw, who gave a compelling talk on Building Scalable APIs, based off his experiences with both public and private APIs, most notably The Cat API which has been used by over one hundred thousand students, teachers, and developers alike.

        Networking and New Releases

In addition to the fantastic sessions, we had an amazing time meeting fellow developers, product managers, and API enthusiasts. That API Company had the opportunity to showcase some of the exciting things we’ve been working on, including the launch of our newly released e-book, “The Auth API: Securing APIs for the Future,” which we shared with many of you at the event.
